Official Site® | Ledger.com/Start® — Getting started with handling
Introduction
What this presentation covers
This presentation is designed to guide a new user through setting up and handling Ledger hardware wallets and the supporting resources at Ledger.com/Start. It uses semantic headings (h1–h5) and a clean, colorful style so you can copy this single-file HTML into a web server, share it, or convert it into slides for PowerPoint or Google Slides.

Notes
This file is intentionally self-contained — all styles are inline so it's portable and easy to convert.
Slide 2 — Unboxing & first steps
Unbox safely
Carefully open your Ledger device. Confirm tamper-evidence and check the package contents: the hardware device, a USB cable, recovery phrase cards, and starter instructions. These basics are essential before powering on the device for the first time. Ledger's official start page provides step-by-step images and a guided setup wizard.
Tips
- Do not connect the device to any unknown computer until you are ready.
- Never share your recovery phrase with anyone; Ledger support will never ask for it.
Reminder
If you see unexpected preconfiguration or damage, contact the vendor or the Official Site® support.
Slide 3 — Powering up and initializing
Boot and choose setup
Power the device using the included cable. You'll be prompted to choose between creating a new wallet or restoring one. Follow the on-device prompts to set a PIN — this is the first layer of physical security. If creating new, write down the recovery phrase exactly as displayed and keep it offline and secure.
Security checklist
- PIN chosen (avoid obvious numbers)
- Recovery phrase recorded offline (do not photograph)
- Store recovery phrase in a secure, fire-resistant place
Small caution
If you ever lose both the device and the recovery phrase, funds cannot be recovered.
Slide 4 — Installing Ledger Live
Download and install
Ledger Live is the companion software to manage accounts, send and receive crypto, and install apps on your device. Visit the Official Site® link from the title or go to ledger.com/start to download the correct package for your OS. Always verify the URL and certificate in your browser address bar before downloading.
Compatibility
Ledger Live supports macOS, Windows, Linux, and there are mobile versions for iOS and Android. Choose the correct installer for your system.
Best practice
Check for the latest Ledger Live version and read release notes for security updates.
Slide 5 — Adding accounts and apps
Install apps on device
Within Ledger Live you can install specific crypto apps (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum) onto your device. After installation, add accounts in Ledger Live to interact with those blockchains. Each app occupies device memory, so remove apps you don't use to free space while remembering that removing an app doesn't delete the account or funds — the keys remain secure in the seed phrase.
Account management
- Create separate accounts for organizational clarity.
- Label accounts in Ledger Live so transactions are easy to track.
Note
Ledger Live will show balances and transaction history but cannot move funds without device confirmation.
Slide 6 — Receiving and sending crypto
Receiving funds
To receive crypto, generate a receive address from Ledger Live while the device is connected and confirm the address shown in Ledger Live on the device screen — this protects against address-hijacking malware. Share the verified address with the sender.
Sending funds
When sending, prepare the transaction in Ledger Live, connect your device, and then physically confirm the amount and destination address on the device itself. Transactions require on-device approval, which protects against remote theft.
Fees
Be aware of network fees. Ledger Live often provides fee recommendation options; choose according to how quickly you need confirmation.
Slide 7 — Advanced features
Apps, staking & integrations
Ledger supports staking for certain coins, third-party dApp integrations, and more advanced workflows like multisig and passphrase-protected accounts. Explore Ledger Live and the Official Site® documentation for supported integrations and step-by-step instructions. For dApps, always use known, reputable sites and verify contract interactions carefully.
Multisig and passphrase
Multisig adds shared control between multiple devices or parties. A passphrase acts as a 25th word, creating an additional hidden wallet — powerful but risky if forgotten; document and secure passphrases as you would the recovery phrase.
Warning
Advanced features increase complexity: test small transactions first and document procedures for safe recovery.
Slide 8 — Troubleshooting
Common issues
If Ledger Live cannot detect your device, try different USB ports, cables, or a different machine. Ensure the device is unlocked and on the home screen. If you suspect software issues, reinstall Ledger Live from the Official Site® and check system permissions (USB access). For hardware problems, consult Ledger support.
Recovering a wallet
To recover on a new device, choose the "Restore" option and enter your recovery phrase exactly as recorded. This regenerates your accounts and private keys.
Support
Ledger support will never ask for your seed—do not share it.
Slide 9 — Best practices & security
Keep it offline and verified
Never store your recovery phrase on cloud services or in photos. Use hardware backups (steel plates) if available and keep copies in physically separate secure locations. Verify software checksums when downloading Ledger Live from the Official Site® and enable system-level security like full-disk encryption where possible.
Operational security
- Use strong, unique PINs
- Enable passphrase only if you understand the risk
- Limit where you plug your device (trusted machines only)
Audit
Periodically review your setup and update firmware/software when releases address security fixes.
